Sciatica describes pain travelling along the sciatic nerve from the lower back through the buttock and down the leg. It is most often caused by a disc bulge or herniation, narrowing of the spinal canal, or muscle tightness around the nerve. Many cases improve with conservative care. Treatment aims to reduce nerve irritation, restore movement and build strength.
