Injuries Treated
After a motor vehicle accident
Collision injuries involve sudden loading of the neck, back and limbs. Early assessment establishes what has been injured, sets a baseline for your claim, and starts treatment while tissue is most responsive.
Injuries we treat after a collision
Symptoms after a motor vehicle accident often appear a day or more later, once the initial adrenaline settles.
- Whiplash and neck sprain or strain
- Mid-back and low back pain
- Post-collision headaches
- Shoulder, chest wall and seatbelt injuries
- Knee, hip and wrist impact injuries
- Reduced range of motion and muscle guarding
Ongoing effects we manage
If symptoms carry on past the first few weeks, treatment shifts to rebuilding function and tolerance for work and driving.
- Persistent neck and back pain
- Dizziness and balance disturbance
- Nerve pain into the arm or leg
- Difficulty sitting, driving or returning to work
- Loss of strength and conditioning
- Anxiety about movement and re-injury
The Process
From collision to discharge
1. Contact the clinic
Call or book online. You do not need a physician referral to begin treatment after a motor vehicle accident in Ontario. Bring your claim number and adjuster details if you already have them; if not, we will proceed and collect them later.
2. Initial assessment
A physiotherapist or our Clinical Director assesses your injuries, records objective findings and establishes a baseline. This assessment forms the clinical basis of the documentation submitted to your insurer.
3. Forms and submission
We complete and submit the required Statutory Accident Benefits forms, including the OCF-18 Treatment and Assessment Plan and OCF-23 where applicable, and correspond with your adjuster directly so that you are not managing paperwork while recovering.
4. Approval and treatment
Once your plan is approved, treatment proceeds at the frequency set out in it. Under the Minor Injury Guideline, a defined amount of treatment is available without prior approval, which allows care to begin promptly.
5. Progress reporting
Objective findings are re-measured through your course of care and reported to the insurer. Where recovery requires more than the approved plan, a further plan is submitted with the clinical reasoning to support it.
6. Return to activity
Discharge planning covers return to work, driving tolerance and the exercise needed to maintain your recovery, with documentation provided for your employer or insurer where requested.
Your Care
How we support your claim
Coordinated treatment
Accident injuries rarely sit within one discipline. Your plan may combine physiotherapy, chiropractic care, massage therapy and acupuncture, all in one building, with practitioners who share your file. Laser and ultrasound are used early on when pain and swelling limit hands-on work. Active Release Techniques are added later if soft tissue tightness or scar tissue is still holding you back.
Direct billing to your insurer
In most cases we bill your auto insurer directly for approved treatment, so there is nothing to pay out of pocket. If an insurer declines a plan, we explain your options before going ahead.
Working with your other providers
If you ask us to, we correspond with your family doctor, a specialist or your legal representative, and provide clinical documentation on request.
Why timing matters
Insurers expect a collision to be reported promptly. Soft tissue injuries also do better with early, graded treatment than with rest. Call us in the first few days after an accident if you can.
